Hi --,

When Gulsoom was 15, she was forced to marry a 40-year-old man. Her husband was an addict who regularly beat her. Feeling trapped in her abusive marriage, Gulsoom attempted suicide by setting herself on fire.

Afghan women deserve to live free from abuse:  www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFUMR/zknA/BiLy

More and more Afghan women are resorting to suicide in order to escape abuse within forced marriages. The situation worsened last year when the Karzai government passed a law legalizing marital rape. For many women, death seems like the only way out.

Women should not be treated as second-class citizens. But until the Karzai government enforces protection of womens' rights and outlaws domestic violence, the women of Afghanistan will continue to seek refuge through suicide.

Tell the President of Afghanistan that women need to be protected from violence and abuse:  www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFUMR/zknA/BiLy

Thanks for taking action!
