Subject: Help protect California's Carrizo Plain National Monument
Dear --,
In the next few weeks, the Obama administration will determine the future of California's beautiful Carrizo Plain National Monument.
We need your immediate action to tell the Bureau of Land Management to protect this wildland from the threat of oil and gas drilling.
Please go to www.savebiogems.org/carrizo/takeaction
and urge BLM officials to adopt a management plan that ensures strong protections for the Carrizo Plain.
As one of California's last wild landscapes, the Carrizo Plain is home to the highest concentration of endangered species in the state, including the California condor and the San Joaquin kit fox. Hidden among its vast grasslands and ridges are priceless cultural artifacts that date back thousands of years.
Despite its designation as a national monument, the Carrizo Plain still faces pressure from oil and gas interests. Its diverse plant and animal life is already under threat from habitat loss and degradation, intensive livestock grazing and climate change.
BLM officials are now finalizing a plan that will decide how the Carrizo Plain is managed for years to come.
That's why we need you to take action right away at www.savebiogems.org/carrizo/takeaction
and tell BLM officials to protect the unique resources of the Carrizo Plain National Monument for future generations to enjoy.
Thank you for taking action to ensure a healthy future for the Carrizo Plain.
Sincerely,
Frances Beinecke
President
Natural Resources Defense Council
